At New York Toy Fair yesterday Mattel announced that Barbie’s latest career wouldn’t actually be a career as such at all; this time Barbie’s ditching the rat race and going it alone as Barbie Entrepreneur! There will be 4 different dolls, including an African American version. Retail price is expected to be $12.99.

However we now have another to add to that list, and they say good things come in threes, as now we have Emperis set to release their first doll Escada on Good Friday (18th April 2014). What sets Emperis apart though is their insistence that everything – from doll, accessories, clothes to packaging – be sourced and manufactured in the UK. As they say in their promotional material: “once there was an abundance of talent in the UK for the manufacture of dolls, but finding any remnants of this has proven somewhat difficult. It’s true we can have our doll made in Asia, but that would take us away from our vision of ‘Made in England’ which for years meant quality and excellence, this is what we’re striving to achieve once more.” I’m sure you will agree she looks stunning. Here is the official description of Escada: “Prima by name and homepage Prima by nature. Stepping out for the first time in a 1930’s esque, fishtail evening dress. Evoking an image of a glamorous past. Hand finished with sequin, bead and thread detailing in splashes of pinks, golds and maroon. Walking the walk in sparkling, zipped high heels and shimmering, sheer tights that go all the way up.

And the collection I’m most excited about: new FR16 dolls, including a brand new character and blonde bombshell Hanne Erikson. As regular reader will know I am 1:4 scale kinda guy and I am very taken with this new character. The fact that all the outfits from this FR16 collection are based on original Fashion Royalty, and Jason Wu designed, outfits is just icing on the cake! This is what Integrity have to say about new girl Hanne: “Hanne Erikson, the newest fashion editor of “The Wall”, has everyone in old Paris talking. From her elite upbringing to her incredible beauty, Hanne (pronounced Ha-nee) brings class and refinement to any project she is involved with. To mark her debut in FR:16, Hanne wears a re-imagined version of the iconic look that made Veronique Perrin the star that she is today, Silver Society. Hanne Erikson is a 16-inch fully articulated vinyl doll with silky rooted blond hair and hand applied eyelashes. Her look is composed of a delicately accented cream pleather dress, a fur stole, an intricately feathered veil hat, pumps, jewelry and an embroidered purse.” Angelic Dreamz new Integrity Toys store, CoutureDolls , are also to carry an exclusive Hanne Erikson doll entitled Obsidian Culture So have you pr-ordered any of these guys or gals?

“The legacy of Swimsuit is personified through the trailblazing careers of its cover models and it wa s important to celebrate these extraordinary women as part of our 50th Anniversary,” said SI Swimsuit editor MJ Day. Sports Illustrated Productions captured exclusive one-on-one interviews with the cover models, current and former editors and photographers who shared raucous behind-the-scenes tales from Swimsuit shoots and cover model glory. World-renowned photographer Walter Iooss Jr. – with more than five decades of shooting Swimsuit, including 12 covers – was given the assignment to capture these legends, reuniting him with many of his former subjects. A new legend is also joining the ranks this year. Making her first Sports Illustrated Swimsuit appearance in 2014 is none other than the iconic doll, Barbie®. Launched in 1959 in her classic black and white bathing suit, Barbie® doll is now joining the ranks of the legendary models of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. Barbie – like many of these women – made her public debut in a swimsuit. And like many of these women, Barbie has gone on to enjoy success in a number of careers – more than 150 careers, in fact.
